Is it worth organising social events?
Posted by taylor | Under friendship, my personal journey Saturday Nov 14, 2009This is an interesting question. Over the years I have oscillated between being the social lynchpin of a community to a social hermit.
I have noticed that there people that seem to organise people and events and others or seem to just to go them.
After a period of hermit, I decided I should go and organise an event and put a huge amount of time, effort and personl $ into a house party.
Did, I enjoy the event; well to be honest my main focus was on everyone else having a good time and the clean up (with no help) was pretty brutal and it is easy to think; why bother. Also generally the feedback or apparent appreciation was relatively low even though I know people had a good time.
So, why bother? Well here are a few reasons to ponder:
- Are you a giver or a taker?
- Is everyone chose not to bother, then nothing would ever happen?
- If you are organising an event, are you doing it for you or for other people? It makes a difference.
- What do you do to build a strong community of friends around you?
