My personal journey 2 – Keeping balance in a time of high intensity

Keeping Life Balance

If you across any of the stuff I have been producing recently then you will know that it has been a pretty intense period for me over the last month or see.

I am fine with that as it is linked to my passion, therefore I have no issue with working hard.   What I have to be careful of though is making sure I keep my balance by also adding in quality time with friends, familly and me!

The first part of that is actually making the time, the second part is actually being present in the time you allocate.

I am doing okay and seem to be able to compartmentalise enough that I keep in a good place.

Having said that I can’t deny that I am looking foward to a break over Christmas…

Is it worth organising social events?

Organising Social Events?

This is an interesting question.  Over the years I have oscillated between being the social lynchpin of a community to a social hermit.

I have noticed that there people that seem to organise people and events and others or seem to just to go them.

After a period of hermit, I decided I should go and organise an event and put a huge amount of time, effort and personl $ into a house party.

Did, I enjoy the event; well to be honest my main focus was on everyone else having a good time and the clean up (with no help) was pretty brutal and it is easy to think; why bother.  Also generally the feedback or apparent appreciation was relatively low even though I know people had a good time.

So, why bother? Well here are a few reasons to ponder:

  • Are you a giver or a taker?
  • Is everyone chose not to bother, then nothing would ever happen?
  • If you are organising an event, are you doing it for you or for other people?  It makes a difference.
  • What do you do to build a strong community of friends around you?

I will show you a few photos of the event in another blog post as can’t be serious all the time!

So, what should my next social get together be;

The importance of who you spend time with – My personal journey

Thursday Oct 29, 2009

A good friend of mine inspired me to add a heap more rawness to my blogs; he is a big fan of “the truth” and feels that keeping it real and personal keeps it much more interesting and insightful…

So, from now on – ” no holds barred” warts and all.

The theme of today’s post is the importance of the people you spend time with and the impact of this on your personal wellbeing.

Try this.  Think carefully about who you want to  and how you want to be. Then look at all the people you spend time with at home, at work, when you are out socialising.  How many of them represent the direction you want to head in?

I constantly find this a struggle and because I wear so many hats, if I am honest, it would be less than 5%.

What is the problem with this?  Well, you are much less likely to be inspired, interested and motivated.  Even gone out and felt a bit flat or empty with the conversation?  Go into the work environment and get tired very quickly.

You are misaligned.  If you were aligned you would find a real sense of purpose and be happy in the moment you are in, not looking for the next, better moment!

It becomes particularly if you are “trapped” in a 9 to 5 job when you have mentally decided that you are destined for something different; your mind is somewhere else and you have a heart conflict which can be very tough.

What to do about it.

  1. The first is awareness.  Know what you are about, where you are heading.
  2. Next actively build relationships with people who are on or ahead of you on a similar path
  3. Finally, don’t be afraid to cull or back off from relationships that are misaligned; don’t fall for the trap of legacy reasons
